So, 2019...

How does everyone feel about resolutions? Do you make any? Do you keep them? Do you make goals instead of resolutions?

I once read that making abstract resolutions or goals (like get more sleep, be healthier, be happier) isn’t the best way to go about it. It’s harder to measure your success. That being said, I did make a couple resolutions that are more abstract.

Now I know that resolutions aren’t for everyone, but I have found that setting goals and creating challenges for myself help my accomplish things. For the past few months, I have been making little to do lists of things I want to do within the month and I even bought a “fancy” planner for this New Year. The first few pages of the planner are dedicated to goal planning, writing down what you want to accomplish this year, and what you want to do more of. It has a habit tracker for each month and daily to do list space. And at the end of each month it has a page where I can write down what I learned that month, what challenges I had, what I’m proud of, and what I can do to make the next month better. To risk sounding lame, I was very excited to start using the planner.

So, what are my goals and resolutions for 2019?

  1. I want to launch a new website by the summer. So, by the end of June/beginning of July. I’ve been putting it off for so long, trying to establish my brand, not having enough new photos to use, and just wanting everything to be perfect. I just need to really sit and work on it, then just post it. ( Turns out this happens sooner than later when I accidentally press the publish button. But undoing it will make me loose everything I've done so, welcome to the updated site. It's not done, so I guess my revised goal is to have it completed by summer.)

  2. I want to become more fluent in Spanish. I took Spanish in middle and high school, but have since forgotten a lot of what I learned. Honestly, it’s sad. This is one of my more abstract goals, since I don’t really have a way to measure it. But my plan is to spend a little time each day practicing and then setting aside a larger chunk of time once a week to practice.

  3. I want to be more giving. Also an abstract goal, but every day I want to give at least one thing. It can be large or small, physical or not.

  4. I want to see more movies. I have a giant list of movies that I want to watch, old and new, and it just keeps growing because I never take the time to watch them. I also want to see more movies in the theater as well, but have the same problem. I don’t take the time to go and see them and by the time I think about going, the movie I want to see is already gone.

  5. I will continue posting one blog post a week, no matter how hard it is.

  6. I want to continue working on my photography. Doing styled photo shoots and random, fun photo shoots.

  7. I want to make new friends and go on more adventures. Get out of my shell a bit more.

  8. Finally, I want to continue working on managing my anxiety and depression. This will not be solved in a year, but I can greatly improve on things.

These are not all the resolutions I have made. They are just some of the bigger, more important ones. Some are really small, like having live plants in my room, and others are more personal and something I would like to keep to myself at the moment.

2019 is going to be a different year. Everyone seems ready for change and they are motivated to make that change. So I’m going to ride that motivation for as long as I can. It’s going to be a huge change of pace for me and it’s not going to be easy, but I’m ready to finally do something.

I had this quote at the end of my last post, but I’m going to put it here again as it’s kind of my mantra for the year:

“And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” - Anaïs Nin

Let me know if you made any resolutions for this year. I would love to read them. Plus, sharing our goals can help us stick to them. We can help hold each other accountable.

Until next time friends.
