To say I've never been to Parfrey's Glen seems like a crime, seeing as I have lived so close to it my entire life. To be fair, my parents took me when I was 4 months old, so I have been there, I just don't remember it.
It's very different than it used to be. There are no wooden paths or stone walls. It truly feels like you are hiking through nature. Sure there are paths were it's obvious many people have walked there, but nothing is marked. It's honestly pretty cool. I did yell out "where do I go!?" at one point because I had to find a way to cross over the very wide stream, but it all worked out.
So anyway, if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a post I made where I said I had a surreal experience that has never happened to me before. I'm wasn't just saying that to bait you into reading this post, it's true. I never considered myself a spiritual person and I always associated being spiritual with being religious. Over the past year or two I have discovered other ways people are spiritual and it's expanded my knowledge on the whole thing. So when I was in Parfrey's Glen that day I was sure I was having some sort of spiritual experience. When I started getting closer to the gorge itself, I started feeling a stronger and stronger presence, like I wasn't alone. I became emotional once I reached my turn around point. I was just in awe of the beauty that I was surrounded by. I started thanking the trees and rocks for letting me be there and asking for permission to use them as steps. It all felt right to me in that moment. It felt like the spirit of nature was right there with me. I was so amazed that I sat down right there and wrote down my thoughts, so I would remember everything I was feeling.
There's a point in the hike, near the end, where there is a set of stairs. When I first came upon it I joked that they were stairs to another world. As I was leaving and I descended those same stairs, that statement came back to my mind and I thought that it was absolutely true. It was no longer a joke or an offhand comment. I turned around and said goodbye to the gorge, thanked nature for such a wonderful experience, and started my trek back to the parking lot. As I continued walking, everything I was feeling slowly started fading away. I started thinking about everything I had just experienced and decided that I was glad I came alone. I got lucky and was able to be completely alone without any other human beings while I was in the gorge. If anyone had been there, friend or stranger, I know I would not have had this experience.
You may think this all sounds crazy and decide to stop following me and my adventures and that's ok. You may have had your own similar experience, which is amazing! This is the first time I've felt something like this and in my journey to discover more about it, I wanted to share it. It's definitely different from things I have posted before, but I think this is helping lead me into the direction I want to take my brand.
So thank you for reading this longer than average post and coming on this journey with me. I hope to have more personal stuff like this for you in the future.
Until next time friends!
