Hello! I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I traveled with my family down to Illinois to celebrate with family down there. I didn't take any pictures for the blog because it was a bit of an intimate time and I didn't want to subject anyone to being on my blog if they didn't want to be. Sometimes it just feels better to live in the moment than live it behind a camera.
Anyway, for today's post, I'm going to take you "behind the scenes" of some of our holiday decorating. We always decorate a day or two after Thanksgiving. We put up the lights outside and we decorate the tree. I also like to give my room a little holiday magic because I absolutely want to be immersed in holiday spirit as much as possible. I also took kind of a lot of pictures of my dogs. How could I resist? I had the camera out and they were being so god damn adorable!
Ok so first up, I've got just a couple details from my room and a peek into my decorations box. (I plan to go shopping to get a couple more things.)
This is an ornament wreath I made a couple years back. I call it my anxiety wreath because I made it out of glass balls instead of plastic ones. I know, what was I thinking! But it's survived and I still love it.
Next was putting up the outside decorations. "Tradition" is my dad puts up the lights and I help / supervise. And then everyone kind of helps out with the lawn decorations to make sure they are placed in a good spot. Oh, and it usually ends up being my job to make sure all the lights still work.
We got our surveyors here, making sure everything is up to code and looks Christmasy.
Back inside to put up the tree, decorate it, listen to Christmas music, and just hang out. This part usually takes us a couple hours.
This is one of my favorite ornaments I've made. Every year since I was 2 or 3, I have made an ornament, until I was 18. I made them for my parents, grandparents, and sometimes teachers. They were a hit and my grandma was very upset when I stopped making them.
Now, below is a photo of my favorite collection. They are the Hallmark Keepsake Puppy Love ornaments. The first one I ever got was in 2004, when we got our first dog, and I've gotten the newest one every year since. But, something that's even cooler about this collection is that it goes back to 1991 and I have every single one of them. One Christmas, after I had accumulated a fair number of the ornaments, my mom went scavenging on Ebay and found every ornament from 1991 to 2003. She tracked down every ornament I didn't have and to this day I think it's one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. It's cool to lay them all out each year and look at them. I am going to be so sad when they stop making them.
Ta da! The completed tree. If you think it looks full that's because it is, and not all of our ornaments are even on it!
Final shot, my dog is the cutest and decided to lay under the tree! Seriously so adorable!
So how was your Thanksgiving? Did you put up any holiday decorations or did you already have them up? Do you have any decorating traditions that you or your family does? Comment below, I would love to read your stories!
