This is the first installment of what I have read and watched this month. I'm still working on a name for this series, so if you have any ideas let me know! I am grateful for any suggestions. I have seen and read more than I list here, but I'll only go in depth about the ones I really enjoyed.
I've read a couple of books over the last month that include A Wrinkle in Time and Everything, Everything. However, I only have one recommendation this month and that is How To Be a Bawse by Lilly Singh. I know, I have mentioned this book about a million times, but that's because it's an amazing book! It's sort of a self help book. In the book, Lilly talks about ways that she has conquered her life and her job and shows you ways of how you can do the same thing. She talks about how to build confidence and reach goals. Lilly doesn't make it cute and give shortcuts, she is honest and straight forward, while also being her quirky, funny self. She talks about her experiences and hard times which makes her very easy to relate to. I think it's her hard working attitude through out the book that gave me such motivation.
Gifted is a very interesting movie. It's about a single man, Frank, raising his gifted niece, Mary. He tries to give her a normal life, instead of one surrounded by tutors and private schools. Franks mother comes along and wants to take custody of Mary. She wants to make sure Mary is tutored and gets the proper schooling while Frank wants Mary to have a normal childhood. It's full of emotion and it's a very interesting story. I picked it up because I am a fan of Chris Evans and both him and Mckenna Grace (who plays Mary) are great in it.
I have to tell you that I love this movie so much. If you like Mary Poppins, I highly suggest you watch this movie. It's about Walt Disney working with the author of the book Mary Poppins, P.L. Travers to make the movie. It flashes back to Travers childhood while she is "working" with Disney to create the movie. I put working in quotes because she really doesn't want to sell the rights of her book to Walt Disney. Of course she comes around because obviously the movie exists. It's just so interesting to see what happened and learn a bit about where the story came from. It kind of made me love Mary Poppins even more and made me interested in reading the book in the future.
I had to throw this one in. As you may know, I love the Marvel movies and this is no exception. It's a fun movie and it has many comedic moments. I personally think it's the best Thor movie and one of the better Marvel movies. It has a great 80's vibe that I love and the music is amazing. It's still in theaters, but if you have a free day and you want to see a great movie, I would recommend this one. I don't have too much else to say about this movie. If you have seen any other Marvel movies, you will love this.
I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the book and movies I enjoyed this month. What have you read or seen this month? Do you have any recommendations that I should absolutely try? I would love to know! I'm always looking for new books to read and movies to see, books especially because my list is getting short. Have a great day!
p.s. If you have any ideas on what I could call this series, let me know in the comments!
